Elvis Costello at V2002
15.00:
Sit down in front of main stage. It's hot. Too hot. Too hot to move.
Too hot to think. A yellow helicopter flies dangerously low overhead.
Feel like I'm being watched.
15.12: Elvis Costello sings 'Watching The Detectives'. Can this
be mere coincidence? In black suit and black shades, he's fierce,
passionate and full of vitality.
15.16: Go to buy pint.
15.26: Have progressed about thirty yards, picking my way over a
mass of inert, sunkissed bodies. 15.37: About four hundred people
are queuing at the main bar. This is ridiculous. Not enough people
serving. Lots of frustrated hot people.
15.45: Bar by second stage is nearly as bad. Why aren't there more
bars? Feel like someone, somewhere doesn't care about the punters.
16.02: 'Oliver's Army'. Excellent. "I would rather be anywhere
else than here today," sneers Elvis. Quite.
16.06: 'Pump It Up'. Elvis acts as Festival Dad, telling us to apply
lots of suncream."
