Costello Writes New Opera   Print  E-mail
Saturday, 22 January 2005
Elvis Costello will write an opera about the fairy tale writer Hans Christian Anderson for Copenhagen's new opera house.
The opera, titled The Secret Arias, explores the Danish writer's unrequited love for the soprano Jenny Lind the "Swedish Nightingale" and is based on songs written by Anderson for Lind.
Costello will perform songs from The Secret Arias at the Copenhagen Opera House this fall, and the complete work will premiere in the venue's smaller, 200-seat theater in 2006.
After Copenhagen, "The Secret Arias" likely will go on an international tour, Engelbrecht said, and be released as a CD and DVD
